Words Granville Orange Pics Copper Beech House and Granville Orange
Granville Orange continues with our series of where to stay if visiting Malvern and the Morgan factory, with or without your treasured Morgans.
This month we change our focus from featuring large hotels (to date we have covered Stanbrook Abbey; Chateau Impney; The Abbey Hotel; Cottage in the Wood; and last month, The Colwall Park Hotel). We have turned our attention to a small bed and breakfast establishment in Great Malvern offering a very personal and award winning service to guests choosing to stay in one of the six double bedrooms.
Copper Beech House has ample off-road parking for up to 10 cars, so ideal for a group of friends or small car club opting to stay here. With six double bedrooms, each individually styled, Copper Beech House can accommodate up to 12 guests.
The owners, Kathy and Steve, won the television show "Four in a Bed" in October 2017, just a few months after opening. The B&B enjoys a rating of 9.8 on Trip Advisor. Offering a personal service is paramount to Kathy and Steve, and they are happy to offer guests upon arrival a tour in their own car around town, highlighting places of interest and taking in such as the theatre, restaurants and the Priory. The hosts are also happy to offer guests a lift into town in the evening and drop them off at a restaurant of their choice or theatre, albeit only a short walk up Avenue Road into Great Malvern. Copper Beech House is also a few hundred yards from Great Malvern station, so extremely handy for guests either arriving by train, or wishing to head into Worcester, Ledbury or Hereford by train for the day leaving their Morgans safe and sound in the car park. Malvern Link station is just one stop up the line, and it is a short walk from there to the Morgan factory in Pickersleigh Road. Why not take the train and then having done the factory tour relax in the visitor centre cafe and enjoy a Morgan beer (or two), and talking of Morgans (as we sometimes do in MOG Magazine... Copper Beech House is also only a short walk away from the Morgan pub in Barnard's Green.
Kathy and Steve will also, by prior agreement, put on afternoon teas or evening dinner for resident groups. Copper Beech House is not licensed, so guests are welcome to bring their own alcohol for consumption on site, and the lovely enclosed garden to the rear of this large Victorian house is an ideal spot for an afternoon/early evening drink in the sun with the Malvern Hills as a backdrop.
Rates are from £90 per double occupancy per night bed and breakfast. All bedrooms are large, indeed Steve, your host, (forgive me Steve) is large - 6"7" to be precise, and an ex rugby player for teams including Wasps, Moseley and Worcester. If Steve can fit in the bed, and he can, then all is well for any other guests. All rooms are en-suite, some with both baths and showers. Kathy tells me with an ironic smile that all rooms "face the sea - you just cannot see it”! (Malvern is one of the furthest points in the country from the sea in any direction). That said, guests will all see the beech - the copper beech!
Copper Beech House is only 1.5 miles from the Morgan factory. Enjoy your stay.
